leash love

Leash Love is dedicated to promoting safe, respectful interactions between pets and people in shared public spaces.

Our mission is to foster greater awareness around the importance of keeping pets leashed or appropriately restrained. By encouraging responsible pet ownership, we strive to create outdoor environments where everyone — two- and four-legged alike — can feel safe, welcome, and free to enjoy their surroundings.

WHY LEASH YOUR DOG?

FACT: No dog is 100% reliable.

Think about it. As a human, are YOU 100% reliable? No. So the expectation that your dog will be is unfair and unrealistic. As a matter of fact, an 80% response rate is considered to be reliable. Which means that 20% of the time, your dog will not respond appropriately [insert sound of head exploding].

six benefits of leashing in public

protects wildlife

Off-leash dogs can disrupt ecosystems by chasing wildlife, damaging vegetation, or disturbing nesting sites. Leashing ensures the long-term conservation of wildlife for future generations to enjoy.

prevents accidents

In the past year alone, I've seen five stories about unleashed dogs being hit by trains. FIVE! Keeping your dog on a leash in public helps to reduce the chances of things like this from happening.

respects shared spaces

Cyclists and joggers have every right to be on public streets and sidewalks. An unleashed dog could chase someone, causing them to fall and get hurt, which means a lawsuit for you.

ensures legal compliance

Following the leash laws established by your community is not only a matter of responsible pet ownership but a legal obligation. Violations can result in fines, citations, or other legal consequences.

literally saves lives

Dogs are curious and inquisitive. When off-leash, they can come into contact with all sorts of things they shouldn't ingest, exposing them to parasites and sometimes toxic enough to lead to their death.

promotes positive interactions

Not everyone loves dogs. But when they're on leashes, owners can facilitate introductions and socialization in a safe and controlled manner, leading to mutual respect among pets and the community at large.

OUR FAVORITE walking PRODUCTS

I try them so that you don't have to. I do NOT receive any compensation for the recommendations on this site. If I'm posting a link to a product, it's because I like it and use it with my own herd every day.

A two-dog leash coupler.

Double Dog Walking & Training Leash Coupler

Got two dogs that you need to walk at the same time? This coupler attaches to your leash and allows you to do just that. The 360°-swivel clip feature prevents leash tangling. Available in 0–30 lb. and 30–150 lb. size options.

Heavy-duty dog leash.

Trail Runner Multi-Handle Heavy Duty Dog Leash

This heavy duty leash made from durable nylon webbing is great because it has multiple hand grip areas, allowing you to control how much leash your dog gets. High-visibility 3M reflective stitching throughout the entire length of leash ensures you will seen in all conditions.

Best Pet Supplies Voyager Mesh Dog Harness

This step-in harness vest is my favorite for small dogs. No muff, no fuss. Front legs go through the holes and the sides wrap up around the dog. You click it shut at the top, connect the leash to the two D-rings, and go!

Didog Soft Flannel Padded Dog Harness

We use these padded harnesses when taking the dogs out for a run. The belly strap is far enough away from the armpits to prevent rubbing, and the two D-rings allow you the choice to connect to the front or back.

Heavy duty self defense stick.

Hickory Stick Self Defense Bat

My crew and I have been attacked by loose dogs a half dozen times. The first time was the worst and I'm surprised we all survived. I bought this stick and carry it with me whenever I go out now. I've used it three times. Works like a charm.

Handheld stun gun.

Jogger Stun Gun

If you don't want the hassle of having to carry a stick, this little handheld stun gun is perfect. You grip it in your hand and loop a finger through the hole. Squeeze the red trigger if you encounter danger. The zap comes from the silver strip at the top.
