The pet product you didn't know you needed

Note: I am not an internet influencer. I don't receive any money from any of the companies whose products I list in my Barks & Recs posts, nor do I wish to receive any money from them. Anything I recommend is because I use it or have used it myself with my crew and like it.
Normally immune to the buzz
You know those Buzzfeed posts that infiltrate your daily social media feed, even though you never asked them to?
Most of the time, I'm able to ignore their catchy clickbait titles. But two weeks ago, I caved. I clicked on one because the photo was for a giant cat exercise wheel and I needed to see how much something like that was going for.
Almost $200 for the one they were featuring, in case you are also curious. I mean, sure, it was cool. But was it $200 cool? I'm skeptical.
I got sucked in
In addition to the cat wheel I did not need, this listical article actually had three products I actually felt that I could not live without. One was saline-based nasal gel, which is not a dog product, but is extremely helpful for anyone battling a really painful nose due to the cold temperatures and dry furnace or fireplace heat this winter season. One was disposable washcloths which, in hindsight, was a really silly purchase. I didn't thoroughly read the product description and mistakenly thought they would be wet. They were not. It was basically a big box of something akin to paper towels for your face. And, I mean, you could literally just use a paper towel on your face for a fraction of the cost. I'm using them to wipe off Gus's face and ears after he eats because that boy is a filthy, messy eater.
But the last one? Yeah, the last one is a keeper and totally worthy of a Barks & Recs post.
Remember the stuff your grade school janitor used?
You know what I'm talking about. It looked like sawdust and was supposed to soak up the liquid and cover up the smell of your classmate's tossed lunch, but it never did. It was just gross. This is basically the same theory — you sprinkle this on a liquid mess and, bam! A few minutes later, your mess is now solid and ready to be swept away, with no lingering odor.
Here's the first sales bullet point:
Say goodbye to messy accidents with pee- and poo-soaked paper towels. Simply sprinkle this on, sweep into a dustpan, and dispose — leaving zero residue or odor behind!
So ... does it work?
It does INDEED really work!
Over the weekend, I made the mistake of giving Pike a new treat in a new chew toy. While he doesn't typically have allergies to foods, he can have a sensitive stomach by times.
And his system did not like the new treat.
It was expelled all over the plush fur blanket draped over the back of the couch. It was so gross that immediately afterwards, Gus propelled himself over the coffee table, catching more air than Michael Jordan.
This was not my first rodeo with this blanket and, looking at the mess, I knew it was going to be a real chore to deal with. But then I remembered that I'd just ordered this stuff. May as well put it to the test!
I sprinkled it on the goop and it immediately started solidifying the liquid. Not in a sticky or cement-like way, but in a way that made it quick and easy to gather and toss into a bag. I had the entire mess cleaned up in less than a minute, which is miracle territory in my book.
It's not perfect, but it's pretty perfect
People rave about its effectiveness on floor messes. I haven't had the opportunity to test is, and I hope I never do. But I put it to test on my extreme mess and it performed above and beyond my expectations. Now, I will say that if you use it on a fuzzy blanket, the next step should be to take the blanket outside and shake out the remaining powder. I did not do that and just threw it directly into the washing machine. When I took it out, most of the powder still remained, so I had to shake it out and wash it again. That was on me and lessons have been learned.
Bottom line
This stuff is going on my keeper list and I highly recommend you add it to yours as well. I'll be checking out their other products in the future, too — especially their Stain & Odor Spray and Enzyme Carpet Shampoo. My review: 🐾🐾 paws.
